Real Madrid on Monday announced the signing of Puerto Rican winger Jeremy De Leon from Spanish side Castellon. The 19-year old winger will join Castilla for now. Castilla is Real Madrid’s reserve team and currently play in the Segunda Division B. Leon scripted history by becoming only the second Puerto Rican player to join the Spanish Giants. Who is Jeremy De Leon?
The 19-year old Castellon forward has been highly rated in the third tier this season. His current deal expiring after the season, and he was being targeted by a number of big clubs. According to Relevo, Villarreal as well as Valencia were interested in signing him. However, de Leon was firm in his desire to join Los Blancos.
De Leon is considered to be one of the fastest players on the pitch, with the ability to outmuscle opposing defenders. Scouts first noticed him at a 2019 tournament in Sheffield, where he was one of the standouts among the other Puerto Rican players. Since then, De Leon has been playing at Castellon and has attracted more attention.
De Leon is adept at playing down both the flanks and can play the role of a second striker behind the forward as well. What makes him particularly eye-catching is his ability to play with both feet, something that top clubs around the world admire.
Real Madrid have made a smart investment for the future, and if De Leon can remain injury free, he will be one of the mainstays of Los Blancos in the near future.
