WATCH: Kiwi legend Ross Taylor makes big claim, says Neil Wagner was ‘forcefully retired’

Wagner is the fifth-highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in Test cricket history, having taken 260 scalps in 64 matches.

Former New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor has given a bombshell statement, claiming that Neil Wagner was ‘forcefully retired’ and that all is not well in the Kiwi camp. Taylor made the claim after the home side received a 172-run thrashing from Australia in the first Test in Wellington.

Wagner announced his retirement before the series but made himself available for the two matches. Kiwi captain Tim Southee himself struggled while Scott Kuggeleijn put on a poor show, and Will O’Rourke got injured midway through the first Test.

While talking with Aaron Finch on the Around the Wicket show, the host brought up the images of Neil Wagner showing a middle finger and even shushing towards someone last month during their 2-match Test series against South Africa. To this, Taylor said:

“I think it all makes sense a little bit now. There’s no sugarcoating it; I think it’s a forced retirement. If you listen to Wagner’s press conference, he was retiring, but it was after this last Test match. So he did make himself available.”
