Tom Hartley, son of Bill Hartley, a renowned athlete who secured four 400m European Championship gold medals in 1974, emerged as a notable left-arm spinner during Lancashire’s 2020 season, which was truncated due to injuries and international commitments. Given the chance to showcase his skills in four Bob Willis Trophy matches, Hartley formed part of Lancashire’s spin trio, contributing significantly to their journey to Finals Day.
In T20 cricket, Hartley stands out for his height and precision, qualities that propelled him to success in his debut Blast season, earning him a spot in the Manchester Originals for the inaugural season of the Hundred. Originally from Ormskirk, Hartley honed his cricketing talents playing regularly for his local club in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition during his teenage years.
