Marcus Stoinis

A versatile cricketer, Marcus Stoinis has been a vital part of Australia’s limited-overs squads and has made significant contributions in the BBL and IPL. After debuting for Western Australia at 19, he moved to Victoria where he showcased his talent, notably scoring 170 against Tasmania in 2013-14.

Stoinis impressed on his international debut against England in 2015 and gained recognition with a remarkable performance against New Zealand, scoring 146* and taking three wickets in his second ODI. He has since been a key finisher for Australia and has excelled in the IPL with Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Stoinis played a crucial role in Australia’s victory in the 2021 T20 World Cup, notably partnering with Matthew Wade in a vital stand against Pakistan. Marcus Stoinis Career Highlights 

  • Marcus Stoinis was initially bought by Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) for INR 25 lakh before the IPL 2015 season but did not feature in any matches.
  • Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) acquired Stoinis for INR 55 lakh in the IPL 2016 auction.
  • Recognizing his value as an all-rounder, Punjab Kings retained Stoinis for INR 6.2 crore using the Right-to-Match option in the IPL 2017 auction.
  • Following two average seasons, Stoinis was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but struggled to secure a regular spot in the playing XI.

Career 

Domestic career 

Marcus Stoinis made his List A debut for Western Australia in the 2008–09 Ford Ranger Cup, followed by his Sheffield Shield debut two days later, both against Queensland at the Gabba. He represented Victoria domestically before returning to Western Australia in the 2017–18 season. Stoinis played club cricket for Scarborough and Northcote in Australia and had stints with Peterborough Town Cricket Club in England and Kent County Cricket Club’s Second XI Championship.

He debuted in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers in 2012–13 and achieved his career-best T20 figures for Kings XI Punjab in 2016. Stoinis excelled for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, becoming the leading run-scorer in the 2018–19 season. He played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League, Southern Brave in The Hundred, and San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket.

International career 

Marcus Stoinis debuted in Twenty20 Internationals against England on 31 August 2015, followed by his One Day International debut against the same team on 11 September 2015. In his second ODI against New Zealand on 30 January 2017, Stoinis made headlines by scoring an unbeaten 146 runs and taking three wickets, earning him the title of Man of the Match despite Australia’s loss. Although added to the Australia Test squad in March 2017, he did not play. Stoinis received a national contract from Cricket Australia for the 2018–19 season in April 2018. He was part of Australia’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup but was sidelined due to injury during the tournament. Stoinis was included in the preliminary squad for a tour to England in July 2020 and subsequently featured in the touring party. He was also named in Australia’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in August 2021.

ODI Career 

In his ODI career spanning from 2015 to 2023, Marcus Stoinis featured in a total of 70 matches, batting in 63 innings, of which he remained not out on 8 occasions. Throughout this period, he accumulated 1487 runs, with an unbeaten highest score of 146*, averaging at 27.03. 

T20 International Career 

In his T20I career spanning from 2015 to 2024, Marcus Stoinis has participated in a total of 59 matches, where he batted in 49 innings, remaining not out on 17 occasions. Throughout this period, he has accumulated 940 runs, with a highest score of 78, averaging at 29.37.
