With each passing day, there are numerous reports making contradictory claims over the squad selection. Some claim that Hardik Pandya would make the squad easily, while there are others that suggest, his fortunes hand on a thin rope. Same goes with the selection of Sanju Samson in the team.
A lot of reports claim that Sanju is certain to go to the T20 World Cup, while a few claim, he might just lose out to Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. The confusion and misinformation does not end there. Now a new report suggests that leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal might not be able to make the cut, despite performing so well in IPL 2024, and instead Axar Patel might be preferred for his all-round abilities.
Yuzvendra Chahal Impressive in IPL 2024
This year in the IPL, Chahal has been mighty good and has been among the top wicket-takers. In the nine matches he has played, he has managed to pick 13 wickets. His economy has been decent as well at 9.00, while strike-rate stands at 15. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say, he has been the best spinner this year.

The next best spinner after him is DC’s Kuldeep Yadav, who has picked 12 wickets in eight matches at ana average of 22.
Who in Place of Yuzvendra Chahal?
Now the question arises, if not Chahal, who could make the cut? Well, a report in ANI claims that all-rounder Axar Patel is the front-runner, to make the team. To be fair, Axar has been a quite good with the bat and the ball. In 11 matches this year, he has scored 149 runs, with a highest of 66, and has bagged nine wickets at an economy of 7.24.
But, having said that, it would just be unfortunate if Chahal does not get picked for the T20 World Cup. In fact, in the 2021 edition, he lost his spot to Varun Chakravarthy, while in 2022 he lost his place to R Ashwin, despite being a consistent performer.
