Concussion Substitute Needed, WATCH Nasser Hussain slapping Mark Butcher’s head

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain jokingly slapped his former teammate Mark Butcher on the head for taking a jibe at him for his decision to bowl at the Gabba 20 years ago.

While Zak Crawley was striking the ball in the middle, former England skipper Nasser Hussain was striking his former teammate Mark Butcher in the commentary box. During Day 2 of the 4th Ashes 2023 Test at Old Trafford, former Australia skipper Mark Taylor and Butcher were chatting about the infamous decision to have a bowl at The Gabba, Brisbane, in the first Test of the Ashes 2002–03.

With England dominating the Aussies in the 4th Ashes 2023 Test, Mark Taylor decided to take a trip down memory lane when Australia ragdolled England about two decades ago.

Butcher joked that the ball was bouncing twice before reaching the players, to which Hussain replied by jokingly slapping Butcher on his head. Butcher, while laughing, said he’ll have to contact HR (human resources) for bullying in the workplace. While his fellow commentator Taylor quipped that the southpaw might need a ‘concussion sub’.

In the first Ashes test, Hussain won the toss and elected to bowl first on what was one of the flattest pitches in Ashes history. Australia took full advantage of the decision, as Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting put up a 272-run partnership for the second wicket.

Australia went on to make 492 runs and set England a target of 464 runs. England, in response, made only 79 runs in the fourth inning, with Butcher scoring more than half of the runs (40), as England lost by 384 runs. The horrible start to the Ashes 2002–03 led to England going down 4-0, losing the second and third tests by an innings. However, they ended the tour with a consolation win in the fifth test.
