Speed and Shabnim Ismail goes hand in hand. She is the only female bowler in the history of the game to cross the 130 kph barrier. Shabnim Ismail claimed she is ready to defy the saying where players slow down with age. And she has done the same. The Proteas bowler clocked 132.1 kph in the previous game in WPL against Delhi Capitals.
In an exclusive interview with Mumbai Indians, Shabnim Ismail claims she doesn’t believe that pace drops with age. At the age of 35 and post international retirement, Ismail is already breaking milestones.
“People say when you get older your pace drops, but I firmly don’t believe in that. I just think for me, it is more the mental side of the game, the things I do off the field, things I do behind the scenes. From a young age I wanted to be one of the quickest in the world, and I believe I still am. I keep doing the hard yards, doing all the explosive training, and it just happens that I am the quickest in the world. I am still enjoying it,” Ismail said.
Mumbai Indians have Jhulan Goswami as their team mentor. Ismail claimed how she discusses with Goswami in constantly improving herself as a better bowler. She went on to claim that she would love to steal Jhulan’s height which would have acted as an added bonus to increase her bowling speed.
“The one thing I would love to steal from Jhulan is her height. I always wish I was a bit taller so that I could get more speed. Although I’m one of the quickest in the world, if not the quickest,” she concluded.
