Mumbai dominated play against Tamil Nadu on Day 1 of the semi finals of Ranji Trophy. A terrific bowling display from Mumbai was enough to restrict TN for just 164 runs in their first innings. Tushar Deshpande bagged 3 wickets accompanied by other bowlers who had their fair share to be proud of. At stumps on Day 1, Mumbai has managed 45/2 and trail by 101 runs.
The aim for Mumbai would be to take advantage of Tamil Nadu’s low 1st innings score and build on it. Mumbai will be planning to pile up a massive total before allowing their opponents to bat again.
Day 1 saw Tamil Nadu batting first after winning the toss. The entire top order collapsed like a pack of cards as Shardul Thakur, Mohit Avasthi and Tushar Deshpande ran havoc. Down the order, Vijay Shankar and Washington Sundar held the helm. The duo managed to score 44 and 43 respectively.
Tamil Nadu’s innings came to an end as Mumbai managed to quickly bowl out the tailenders. Mumbai too however, didn’t get a good start. Star opener Prithvi Shaw was quick to depart after managing just 5 runs.
At the end of Day’s play, Mumbai despite their 2 wicket loss have the higher ground. They finished the day with a score of 45/2 with a trail of 101 runs.
