While the Indian side has never won a Test series on South African soil, they have failed to come out with flying colours in Centurion too. The tourists have played twice at SuperSport Park and have faced massive defeats on both occasions.
They first played at the venue in 2010 when South Africa registered an innings and 25 runs win over MS Dhoni-led side. In 2018, the hosts registered another huge win by a 135-run margin over Virat Kohli and Co.
However, this time the visitors will start favorites. Virat Kohli-led side recently re-claimed the No. 1 position in Test rankings while the Proteas haven’t played any Test match in the last six months. In addition, they faced a high blow with one of their key pacer Anrich Nortje ruled out of the Test series. Experienced campaigner Q de Kock is also said to be unavailable for the last two Tests.
For India, the onus will be especially upon Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and R Ashwin. Kohli is amongst the most run scorers at Centurion and seems hungry for big runs. Jasprit Bumarh picked up his maiden Test 5-for during his last visit to the rainbow nation. Ashwin too will be crucial especially with the kind of form he is in. He surpassed veteran Harbhajan Singh on the list of most Test wickets for India and is on verge of surpassing a few other greats of the game.
